Whitney Truran graduated in December, 2008.  She is headed toward a career as a Physician’s Assistant.  Whitney sends this post in as she looks back over her time at McMurry.

When asked what my most memorable moment I have of McMurry is I had a really hard time deciding which moment would be my most memorable.  At McMurry, there have been so many things that I have been apart of that I will consider a memorable moment.  While at McMurry, I participated on the Women’s golf team for two years, went on a trip to New York City during a may-term with many business majors, extremely enjoyed the professors in the Biology department, and have made many friends that I will never forget.

One of my best memories, while rather disgusting, will be dissecting a cat and a shark in one semester alternating between the two each week.  The smells that you smell while dissecting a shark are absolutely unforgettable, not because it smells good but because it is the worst smell you could ever imagine.  If anyone has been in the science building in the last semester, you can relate.

I will never forget the professors who have molded me to become a better biologist and a good student.  I will always remember the in depth conversations I had with Dr. Benoit about the sport that happened to be in season at that time from the Dallas Cowboys to the Texas Rangers to old school baseball and the recent round of pool he played with his eldest son.

Another of my best memories will be going to golf tournaments and making life long friends with some of my teammates.   Without golf, I possibly would have been bored out of my mind.  What I will remember most about golf will be the trips to various different towns on the way to golf tournaments.  Through golf, I was able to travel to Jekyll Island, Georgia twice, Orlando, Florida once, South Padre Island, Texas once, and other towns within the state of Texas.

In the near future I plan on entering a Physician’s Assistant program at either University of North Texas- Health Science Center in Fort Worth or University of Texas- Medical Branch in Galveston.  While applying to these schools,  I will be working in Eastland, Texas at the Family Health Clinic where I will learn more about the Physician’s Assistant profession.

I deeply appreciate everyone who has been apart of my college career and especially thank the professors of the biology department for always being very supportive, helpful, and for always being there for me.
