At 11:00, Dr. Sung-Kun Kim addressed Chemistry Club members. Dr. Kim discussed developing new pharmaceuticals to overcome “superbugs”, or bacteria that are resistant to commonly used antibiotics. The title of the presentation was “Antibiotic Resistance in Bacteria: Novel Metalloenzyme Inhibitors”.
At 11:30, Mr. Chad Hutchins addressed the AITP club. His presentation was about how to create a successful internet startup. Mr. Hutchins talked about the important of vision, passion, perseverance, and surrounding yourself with the right people. He also challenged the students to consider starting a business while they are still in college– “College is the best time for starting a business!”
At noon, the Women in Science group met to discuss the idea of putting together a new student organization of female science students and faculty members. Ideas for service projects, activities, and meetings times were discussed and the attendees agreed that having a group like this was a good idea. So you might hear more about this later!
