The T.I.P. Centennial Sing Song
As the school year draws to a close, many exciting events are on the horizon. One of the most
highly anticipated is TIPs Sing Song! This year’s event is especially significant as it marks the
centennial celebration of Sing Song. The chosen theme, 100 Years of Heartbreak, honors the rich
history of this cherished tradition at McMurry. I interviewed Evelyn Van Houten, President of
Gamma Sigma, to get a better understanding of the Sing Song process from a participant’s
perspective.
“I enjoy the competitive aspect of Sing Song but specifically getting to do it with my sisters!
Getting to work hard on something and use it to compete is really fulfilling,” she says. She
expressed deep gratitude for the opportunity through Sing Song to bond with her club and getting
to face challenges together in ways they’re not used to. In their practices Van Houten says, “my
favorite part is laughing and joking while working on choreography and learning lyrics.” She
admits that even though they are practicing for competition, they still make sure to have a lot of
fun!
“Getting to sing and dance with my friends is super fun,” she says, “we all learn a lot about each
other and how to problem solve in a group environment.” Sing Song is not only a fun activity for
clubs to bond, but it also offers an opportunity to learn valuable life lessons. Problem solving is
an essential skill for any job, so getting to exercise that skill here is especially important to the
Sing Song experience.
Last year Gamma Sigma won 3rd place and Crowd Favorite in the Sing Song competition. Van
Houten says, “Our goal this year is to do better and maybe score 1st place! Winning Crowd
Favorite doesn’t sound to bad either!” They will be performing Take a Hint by the cast of
Victorious and Look What You Made Me Do by Taylor Swift as their two songs. “I think the
audience will appreciate how committed we are to our songs” she says. Their energy and
excitement for the performance is buzzing, and they can’t wait to show off all their hard work!
Be sure to attend TIPs centennial Sing Song celebration on April 13th at 4:00 in Radfrod
auditorium! Gamma Sigma will be competing alongside other frats and sororities on campus!
