Alumni and Students team up for “Legacy in the Limelight”
Next week, the Theatre department will be performing “Legacy in the Limelight” for Homecoming! This is a showcase that highlights some talented alumni, along with current Theatre students. The performances will be on October 10 and 11, and the $35 tickets can be bought here, or at the door. There will be a pre-show cocktail hour at 6:30 p.m., which will include soloist and group numbers by current students. This hour includes heavy hors d’oeuvres from Nomad catering, and beer and wine will also be available. The show starts at 7:30 p.m., and there will be dessert served during intermission!
Many people may be wondering why these tickets are pricier than McMurry shows in the past, and it is because “Legacy in the Limelight” is a fundraiser to upgrade current lighting equipment in Ryan Little Theater! Neena McLain, the Theatre department chair is directing the Showcase. She says that she is most excited about the opportunity for current students to connect with alumni and gain insight from their experiences. Paige Sproles is the Music Director, who is also performing during the show. Senior Theatre student Lauren Scott is choreographing the opening and finale numbers, and rehearsals have been in full swing! We have been rehearsing for many hours a week with music and dance, and we are all super excited to have an audience!
I am personally very thrilled for people to see all of the work we have put into the performance! I am a featured dancer in our opening and finale numbers, and I get to perform during the cocktail hour with my best friends. I am performing a group number with Alumni Aby Brown, and current students Mia McKean and Lauren Scott, where we sing a mashup of songs from Mamma Mia. I mixed the songs together, trying to pick some of ABBA’s most popular hits like Waterloo and Angel Eyes. We are the last performance before the show starts at 7:30 p.m., and you won’t want to miss it!
