“Cabaret Under the Stars” dazzles at Paramount Theatre

Cabaret Under the Stars is a biannual fundraiser and beloved performance tradition hosted by the Paramount Theatre in Abilene, Texas. Since its debut five years ago, the event has featured eleven unforgettable shows, featuring amazing talent in town. This year’s theme, “Songs for the Road,” celebrates music that captures the spirit of journey, reflection, and adventure. I had the absolute honor of participating in the show this year, and I am beyond grateful for the opportunity and connections I gained from this experience.

Cabaret Under the Stars typically features around ten to eleven performers in each showcase. This year, our talented cast included Lacey Bilyew, Bob Brooks, Amanda Guidi, Spencer Kassleman, Kyle Martin, Dawne Meeks, Kasey Nixon, Paige Sproles, Jacob Swan, Seth Womack, and myself! Being surrounded by performers of such high professional caliber was both inspiring and intimidating. As the only student in the group, I often questioned whether I truly belonged on stage alongside such seasoned talent. However, these amazing individuals made backstage a warm and welcoming place, free of judgment.

To say I learned things from this experience is an understatement. Throughout the process of preparing for and performing in the show, I gained an exceptional understanding of what it takes to bring a performance together. I developed a heightened awareness of my own strengths and areas for growth, learning how to manage nerves, adapt under pressure, and deliver my best performance. Most importantly, I built confidence in my abilities as a performer, and in my capacity to hold my own alongside such accomplished talent. This experience has left a lasting impact on me, and I couldn’t be more grateful for the lessons, memories, and personal growth it provided.

I am also deeply grateful to the amazing production team and crew whose hard work made this show possible.
