Theatre Prepares to Shine at Showcase

Issue 40: April 16, 2025

Next Friday, April 25th at 7:30 pm, the Theatre Department will perform a showcase of solos, acting monologues/scenes, dance numbers, and group musical numbers! The Theatre Department Honor Society Alpha Psi Omega will be hosting the evening. Officers and honor society members will be the announcers throughout the showcase to introduce the acts.

I asked Aby Brown, the President of APO, to share a little bit about Showcase. She said, “I’m excited because this is a moment for us to have fun and to sing the song we’ve always wanted to. I’m personally excited to be doing a group number with my three best friends, which will be my last performance on the McMurry stage before I graduate!”

Ben Jeter, a Sophomore Theatre student, is looking forward to Showcase because, “it’s an amazing opportunity for everyone in the department to display their talents. Showcase gives us both a chance to explore new areas of performance and refine the skills we’ve already developed.”

I am personally counting down the days until Showcase! I am in the group number Aby mentioned, which is a mashup of songs from Mamma Mia. I am also performing a musical theatre dance solo, which is the solo I competed with at my dance studio in High School. While competing in the solo, I received a “Broadway Bound” judges’ award, 3rd overall, and a Dance intensive scholarship for Oklahoma City University’s Dance program. I am excited to revisit the dance and perform it with its new changes and new costume!
