Beyond Trafficking hosts a Walk for Freedom this Saturday

Issue 43: October 15, 2025

This Saturday is the Walk for Freedom hosted by Beyond Trafficking. It will be from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. at Everman Park. The purpose of this event is to take a stand for those who can’t. Beyond Trafficking says, “Let’s unite and show our community’s strength and unwavering commitment to ending human trafficking.” If you plan to attend, be sure to wear black and shoes comfortable to walk in. Participants walk in silence and wear black, symbolizing mourning and honoring survivors who often feel voiceless. More information can be found on their website or their Instagram, @beyondtrafficking.

Beyond Trafficking is a faith-based organization that aids survivors of human trafficking. They are a support system that works cohesively with other agencies and nonprofits to provide extensive care management including therapy services, counseling, crisis intervention, long-term and short-term housing, legal services, health and dental services, clothing, and all basic needs. The mission they have is to empower and protect survivors so that they can break the cycle of bondage. Their vision is to have a world without exploitation where every human is free physically, spiritually and emotionally.

The topic of human trafficking is very important to know about. According to the National Human Trafficking Hotline, Texas as a whole consistently ranks as one of the states with the highest number of human trafficking cases in the nation. If you were not already aware, Abilene’s I-20 is a major hub for trafficking activity. The city’s homeless youth population is a major concern, with over 1,200 homeless children in Abilene ISD identified as being at risk in 2022 according to the Big Country Homepage. If you would like to support this cause and be a part of something that truly matters, be sure to attend this Saturday!
