When choosing costumes, it was important to me that there was a lot of realism, but I also wanted to play into the humor in some of the iconic characters in the show. Make sure you grab tickets now to see the show premiering tomorrow at 7:30 p.m.!

I used my own costume designs and also took inspiration from other Theatre majors Aby and Brooke’s designs. This was a learning experience for me because I had never done costumes before, but I am very grateful that I had this opportunity! I started by pulling items from the costume storage we have in the Theatre and tried to find as many pieces as possible. I then went to Thrift stores all over Abilene to find the unique clothing that I was searching for. After that, I ordered whatever else we needed.

For the ensemble characters, I mixed and matched different colors of bottoms, jackets, and ties to really give the Skid Row vibe. The Doo Wap girls, who act as a Greek Chorus throughout the show, are all dressed in different pleated skirts, and they all have the color red incorporated into their costumes. I wanted to incorporate the color red to play on Little Shop being such a bloody story.

The main character, Seymour Krelborn, is an insecure, naive, sweet, and nerdy guy. I decided to play into the nerdy side, so Seymoure is wearing classic glasses and a bow tie with a plaid shirt. The iconic, shy, and slightly ditzy Audrey wears what she thinks are nice clothes for work, but to everyone else they are just a bit too revealing. Audrey’s sadistic and abusive dentist boyfriend Orin Scrivello wears an all-black outfit with a leather jacket. There is a surprise with his costume, but you are going to have to come see the show to find out what it is!

We open “Little Shop of Horrors” on Thursday at 7:30 p.m., on Halloween Night! It is pay what you can on Thursday, and we are also having a costume contest so be sure to dress up! Tickets for Friday and Saturday at 7:30 p.m., and Sunday at 2:30 p.m. can be bought using this ticket link: https://cur8.com/18572/project/124635

Please come enjoy this hilarious show and see all of the hard work we have done!

McMurry Theatre’s Homecoming Musical Little Shop of Horrors is a dark comedy set in the early 1960s in Skid Row, a neighborhood known for poverty and homelessness.
