Gobblefest returns next Saturday on April 26th immediately following the Senior Day Softball game. Hosted by the Makona Men\u2019s Fraternity, this year\u2019s event will bring students from all over campus together again for a day of competitive eating to fight Leukemia and Lymphoma. Students representing campus organizations will compete to see who can eat the most hotdogs in a timed round while the audience looks on. This year each organization will submit two individuals; one person will be focused on gobbling hotdogs while the other supports them with water, napkins, and unwrapping hotdogs.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cIt\u2019s this beautiful chaotic mixture of absurdity and heart,\u201d said Leo Hernandez-Garza, event director and Makona Vice-President elect. \u201cOne second you\u2019re watching someone inhale five hotdogs in a minute and the next you\u2019re reminded why it matters because the money is going toward fighting leukemia. We\u2019re proud to say that all proceeds and profits from Gobblefest will go directly to the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Shirts and hotdogs will be sold at both the Friday and Saturday games and QR codes will be available for those who want to donate directly to the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society as well. \u201cWe\u2019re not just hosting a contest,\u201d said Hernandez-Garza. \u201cWe\u2019re showing that students aren\u2019t powerless to affect change and can have fun while standing for a good cause. Having everyone help support our mission can help us boost the reach. Every person who shares a post, buys a shirt, or shows up to the softball games or Gobblefest helps make a difference in the fight against blood cancer!\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Gobblefest attendance is free and open to all students, faculty, staff, and guests. The competition will begin shortly after the final whistle of the Saturday senior softball game.
