McMurry Student Government wrapped\u00a0up\u00a0Spring Thing 2026 this last Friday. According to Student Body President Garrison Shin, \u201cSpring\u00a0Thing is a week full of events that MSG and CAB plan to get students in the spring engaged each year, and we hope that students come out and be engaged in what we have to offer.\u201d This year’s Theme was Viva Las Vegas\/Night in Vegas, selected by\u00a0two time\u00a0Traditions Chair, former Student Body President, Hannah Hutchison.\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The week started off with a volunteer campus cleanup host by MSG on Monday, March 16th<\/sup> at the usual 6:30 PM timeslot following a brief MSG meeting. All six sororities and four fraternities provided members to help beautify the campus, with Shin commenting, \u201cIt\u2019s great to see so many volunteers come together.\u201d  <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Following, MSG and the Campus Activities Board Co-Sponsored Skate Night on Tuesday evening from 8:30 to 10:30 PM at Skatin Place for students to enjoy a ride around the rink. The following morning MSG held the Sunrise Breakfast at 7 AM on Wah Wahtaysee after a short reschedule due to inclement weather. For yet another year, students were invited to enjoy complimentary donuts and kolaches as the sun rose on the back half of the Spring. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

That evening at 7 PM,\u00a0Hutchison\u00a0emceed the Him\u00a0showcase,\u00a0a competition to see who\u00a0is \u201cHim\u201d on campus, with Jack Greenwald walking away with the title and prize as\u00a0determined\u00a0by a panel of Judges from the MSG Executive Council. Every student attendee walked away with a Spring Thing 2026 sweater and some like Jesus Guerrero came away with raffled gift cards.\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Lastly on Friday was the annual MSG Semi-Formal, students were invited to dance on the dancefloor with the lasers and DJ, enjoy the beverages and hors d’oeuvres, and learn Black Jack from trained dealers. When asked about planning Spring Thing 2026, Hutchison responded, \u201cI thought it would be a cool experience for students to learn how to play card games and also just sit in community with one another.\u201d   <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Speaking of community, Hutchison will be leaving McMurry\u2019s this may as she walks the stage. When asked what advice she would give to who ever takes over Spring Thing next year, following MSG elections on March 30th-April 3rd<\/sup>, Hutchison responded \u201cAsking for help is not a sign of weakness, it’s a sign of strength and so while I think doing whatever you can with whatever resources you have can be great, but also relying on others is gonna help you get through that process.\u201d   <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Further, and when asked more broadly what she has learned in her positions planning on-campus events, Hutchison responded \u201cI would say some of the most important things that I learned is to be vocal and communicative about help that’s needed, asking people to show up and getting their advice on what they want to do is the most important thing because we do this for the student body to have a fun time. Just try not to lose sight of that goal.\u201d   <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Spring Thing is one of McMurry\u2019s respected traditions, and it\u2019s a perfect opportunity to create space for students to join in community to tackle the Spring semester. Students can learn about MSG, and what they have in store for the remainder of the year Mondays at 6:30 in the President\u2019s Board Room and by following @mcmurrysg on Instagram.  <\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
