Well, you\u2019re in luck, The Galleon Literary Journal can take you on this adventure and so many more! <\/p>\n\n\n\n
Named after the 15th<\/sup> century battleship, the Galleon, established in 1923, is a literary journal designed to take you on a wondrous journey through art, poetry, and prose. Led by Professor Cole Thomson, the journal is run by a team of student editors who observe its assembly from the first submission to the day it goes to print. The staff is encouraging all interested students and staff to submit their pieces for the opportunity to be credited in an official published body of work. The Galleon is also in search of a mighty crew eager to build this issue from the ground up, in hopes of publishing by the end of the next fall semester! Elizabeth Prinz, head editor alongside Lauren Scott and Elijah Lewis, shared insights into her experience working with the Galleon, as well as what to expect if you are thinking about submitting or joining the team! <\/p>\n\n\n\n \u201cThe Galleon serves as a great opportunity for students to get involved,\u201d shares Prinz. She says that being a staff member looks great on a resume, but it also is an incredible opportunity to work as a team. Being a student editor consists of being split into a category of your preference and working with other students to filter through submissions and accept ones for publication. Submitter identities are anonymous, so the acceptance process is achieved without bias or favoritism. This task can be somewhat intimidating, but the Galleon encourages students to take on new responsibilities, equipping them with an impressive skill set that will benefit their future careers. <\/p>\n\n\n\n If becoming an editor isn\u2019t plausible for your schedule, perhaps submitting to the general submissions is more appealing! Prinz says the Galleon is a way for \u201cstudents to express their creativity in a safe space where their talents are appreciated and showcased.\u201d The Galleon is a collection of artwork, poetry, and prose that personifies the diverse and unique voices here on campus. You can submit up to six pieces, but from that selection, only five are eligible for publication. <\/p>\n\n\n\n Prinz has had her own unique journey with the journal stating, \u201cThe Galleon has been a huge learning experience for me. It taught me how to work and communicate with other students and faculty for a common goal.\u201d She has been a head editor for two years now and is very excited to embark on this new journey with her co-head editors. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
