{"id":1604,"date":"2026-04-23T12:57:08","date_gmt":"2026-04-23T18:57:08","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/blogs.mcm.edu\/herald\/?p=1604"},"modified":"2026-04-23T12:57:08","modified_gmt":"2026-04-23T18:57:08","slug":"dbe-upholds-campus-core-values-at-the-3rd-annual-delta-olympics","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blogs.mcm.edu\/herald\/2026\/04\/23\/dbe-upholds-campus-core-values-at-the-3rd-annual-delta-olympics\/","title":{"rendered":"DBE Upholds Campus&#8217; Core Values at the 3rd Annual Delta Olympics!"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>This weekend Greek Life&nbsp;participated&nbsp;in&nbsp;the&nbsp;much-anticipated&nbsp;Delta Olympics!&nbsp;Many hands&nbsp;were working to&nbsp;make sure&nbsp;that&nbsp;the&nbsp;games&nbsp;ran smoothly, but Abcde Vasquez,&nbsp;the Delta Olympics chair&nbsp;for Delta Beta Epsilon (DBE),&nbsp;oversaw&nbsp;the planning and structure of&nbsp;the event. Vaquez&nbsp;is&nbsp;a sophomore majoring in Criminology and minoring in Sociology.&nbsp;This was her first year running the games, a&nbsp;responsibility that was, according to Vasquez, challenging&nbsp;but&nbsp;ultimately&nbsp;gratifying.&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"1024\" height=\"768\" src=\"https:\/\/blogs.mcm.edu\/herald\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/04\/IMG_3991-1024x768.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-1606\" srcset=\"https:\/\/blogs.mcm.edu\/herald\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/04\/IMG_3991-1024x768.jpg 1024w, https:\/\/blogs.mcm.edu\/herald\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/04\/IMG_3991-300x225.jpg 300w, https:\/\/blogs.mcm.edu\/herald\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/04\/IMG_3991-768x576.jpg 768w, https:\/\/blogs.mcm.edu\/herald\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/04\/IMG_3991-1536x1152.jpg 1536w, https:\/\/blogs.mcm.edu\/herald\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/04\/IMG_3991-2048x1536.jpg 2048w, https:\/\/blogs.mcm.edu\/herald\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/04\/IMG_3991-730x548.jpg 730w, https:\/\/blogs.mcm.edu\/herald\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/04\/IMG_3991-435x326.jpg 435w, https:\/\/blogs.mcm.edu\/herald\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/04\/IMG_3991-80x60.jpg 80w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 1024px) 100vw, 1024px\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>The Delta&nbsp;Olympics&nbsp;were&nbsp;established&nbsp;three years ago,&nbsp;when alumni Ashlynn Quillan&nbsp;presented&nbsp;her club with an idea to foster connections between the fraternities and sororities on campus.&nbsp;A goal that has&nbsp;remained&nbsp;present in the years following.&nbsp;Vasquez shares that, \u201cthe primary purpose of the event is to bring together diverse organizations in an environment centered on unity, collaboration, and enjoyment.\u201d Because of this motivation, the Delta Olympics have grown to create opportunities&nbsp;for various groups to interact, support one another, and strengthen relationships both within and across organizations.&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Teamwork, leadership, and collaboration are&nbsp;all&nbsp;traits valued by&nbsp;DBE&nbsp;and promoted by the event itself.&nbsp;Vasquez has&nbsp;witnessed&nbsp;these&nbsp;traits&nbsp;bloom in real time,&nbsp;stating, \u201cI\u2019ve seen&nbsp;organizations step outside of their comfort zones, achieve success in new challenges, and grow stronger as cohesive teams.\u201d She shares that seeing&nbsp;the continued development of these groups and the&nbsp;evolution of a more&nbsp;unified Greek&nbsp;Life&nbsp;community&nbsp;because of the Delta Olympics&nbsp;has been&nbsp;very rewarding.&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Vasquez believes&nbsp;the event is invaluable to&nbsp;McMurry\u2019s&nbsp;campus. It is not only a way for fraternities and sororities to connect, but for the&nbsp;entire student body to celebrate and&nbsp;have fun&nbsp;together. The games are open to all students to watch and cheer on their favorite clubs, hopefully inspiring them to get&nbsp;involved&nbsp;in Greek Life.&nbsp;\u201cI hope it shows we all can&nbsp;come together as a community,&nbsp;and&nbsp;that&nbsp;even through our&nbsp;differences,&nbsp;we can still support each other and show that we are one big&nbsp;family,\u201d shares Vasquez.&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>DBE&nbsp;did&nbsp;a&nbsp;wonderful job engaging Greek Life in these&nbsp;games.&nbsp;Members from every fraternity and sorority on campus made an appearance at the activities yesterday,&nbsp;fully committing to their assignments&nbsp;and&nbsp;showing up decked out in their respective club attire.&nbsp;Vasquez expressed her satisfaction with the event saying it was fun to&nbsp;\u201csee everyone get messy during the watermelon eating contest\u2026 and&nbsp;cheer each other on,\u201d during the tug-of-war competition. She is&nbsp;very pleased&nbsp;with the reception of this&nbsp;year\u2019s&nbsp;games and looks forward to next year!&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Vasquez\u2019s&nbsp;passion, alongside her sorority sisters, reflects McMurry\u2019s core value of personal relationships as the&nbsp;catalyst of life, excellence as the goal of life, and service as the measure of life.&nbsp;They are an&nbsp;excellent example&nbsp;of what school spirit and unwavering devotion look like.
