The annual weeklong
celebration spearheaded by the McMurry Student government is a series of
cooperated events among clubs on campus, whose goal is to have fun and serve
the community.

Throughout the week, free
activities are available for all students and the week concludes with a service
project. The week started with a pool party planned by the McMurry Debate team.
The team had fun floaties and rented out the McMurry pool for a night of fun.
“Everyone who went was able to have a lot of fun swimming, listening to music,
and hanging out with each other,” says Debate team member Rachel
Brandon-Hopper.

On Wednesday, there was a
concert brought in by McMurry Religious life. Justin Gambino is a Christian
singer who has opened for bands such as Casting Crows, amongst many other
infamous bands, and McMurry was glad to have him.

Shawna Johnson, a member
of the spiritual life team said “I met Justin Gambino at a Methodist youth camp
where he was leading worship. He was such an amazing worship leader and I knew
he would be great to bring to McMurry.” Gambino performed a series of his
original songs as well as a few covers of other well-known songs. “Justin’s
music is very relatable and personal to his audience. You could tell he really
made an impact on those who attended, and you could feel the energy in the
room,” added Johnson. The nocturnal concert was a mellowing experience as
Justin’s voice rang throughout the auditorium.

Thursday, the campus center played host to a karaoke night. Hosted by Campus Activities Board, students gave rousing performances of classic songs. People laughed and joked as others sang in the background. The event–held outside in the courtyard–was a wonderful way to demonstrate that the weather was finally nice enough to enjoy.

Friday brought about the
annual student versus faculty kickball game. Dinner that evening was served by
the intramural field. With hot dogs and hamburgers in hand, students watched as
friends, professors, and advisors competed. This year, the staff took a rousing
victory against the students. “Getting to chill outside with a bunch of friends
and have a fun competition with our professors is my favorite part,” said MSG
Senator Garret Hurst.

Saturday was dedicated for fundraising money for the Noah Project. “They [Noah Project] are a safe space for victims to feel safe from their abusers,” said MSG Tradition Chair Bayli Avery, “Their mission is to empower victims to become survivors, and work to end domestic violence and sexual assault.”

For $25, teams of two could enter a corn hole tournament with the chance of winning a mini-corn hole set. Teams faced off for some friendly competition. There was also a costume competition and teams came dressed in their best beach attire, fifties outfits, and so many more.

Concluding a successful Spring Thing for this year, MSG is looking to make next year’s Spring Thing even more exciting and engaging for students.
