{"id":72,"date":"2019-05-03T12:22:10","date_gmt":"2019-05-03T18:22:10","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/blogs.mcm.edu\/herald\/?p=72"},"modified":"2019-11-18T09:43:48","modified_gmt":"2019-11-18T15:43:48","slug":"international-students-graduation","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blogs.mcm.edu\/herald\/2019\/05\/03\/international-students-graduation\/","title":{"rendered":"International Students\u2019 Graduation"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>International Student Support\nCommittee and McMurry Intercultural Student Association (MISA) hosted the first\ninternational student graduation &amp; reception on April 29<sup>th<\/sup>,\n2019.&nbsp; <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>This special graduation idea arose\nfrom the love and care from our faculty and staff. Contrary to domestic\nstudents, it is harder for international students to invite their family and\nfriends to come to the U.S. for their graduation. It is great to have receptions\nas such to let international students know that McMurry cares about each\nindividual international student.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cFor all that have been, thanks.\nFor all that shall be, yes!\u201d said Dr. Mark Waters, as he began his speech from\na quote from Dag Hammarskj\u00f6ld\u2019s. As a faculty member, Dr. Waters highly\nexpressed his excitement towards our increasing amount of international\nstudents since 2015. The diversity these students bring into our campus is\ngreatly appreciated. \u201cThere will be a total of fifteen international students\ngraduating in the coming May\/August\/December of 2019. McMurry is very thankful\nthat you are here, no matter where you go tomorrow. Yes, we will be here to\nsupport you. And yes, you shall have a bright future,\u201d added Dr. Waters.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Saleh Almohammed, an international\nstudent from Saudi Arabia, who is majoring in psychology, as well as the\npresident for MISA, describe MISA as such, \u201cMISA is a home to help\ninternational students to connect with the domestic students. In MISA, we learn\nfrom each other\u2019s culture while making friends.\u201d As a new student organization,\nMISA only has been involved on campus for one year. However, MISA plays a\nreally important role as a bridge between cultures to make our campus greater.\n\u201cMcMurry University means family to me. I treasure the unique relationship I\nhave here. Friends here make me feel really supported,\u201d commented Almohammed.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>McMurry University has been\ndescribed as home by many international students. The welcoming environment,\nsupportive faculty, and open minded peers are deeply loved by our students. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Francesca Mae Macariola, an international\nstudent from Philippines said, \u201cI enjoyed studying at McMurry for the nice people,\napproachable professors, and plenty of opportunities.\u201d Besides having\noutstanding academic performances, Macariola is a member of National Service\nFraternity Alpha Psi Omega, women\u2019s social club Alpha Psi Alpha, and the\nsecretary of MISA. \u201cAt McMurry, things are more doable. I feel strongly encouraged\nto get involved,\u201d said Macariola.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>During the reception, MISA called\nevery graduating international student\u2019s name proudly. We love our seniors. We\nwant you to know each of you are loved and appreciated. Your presence will be\ndearly missed.
