Today is National First-Generation College Day—and that means we’re celebrating the estimated 37% of our student body who are the first in their families to attend college. These students contribute to the University’s rich diversity and offer inspiration in their determination to overcome economic, language, and social obstacles to achieve a quality college education.
Students, Faculty, and Staff members gathered to hear a panel discussion from other First-Gen students–some of whom are still students, and some who are now faculty or staff. Dr. Rachel Montesdeoca, Advising Specialist from the STEM Student Success Center, began by sharing the stories of each panel member and then moderating a question and answer session for the audience.
The stories were inspiring and the advice practical. It was an hour well spent!
