Our traditional Homecoming Science and Math Alumni Reunion will be held on Saturday, October 16, 2021 from 11 am to 12 pm in the Science Building, Rooms S104/S105/S106. Please come to meet your old friends and visit with science and math alumni from different years. Refreshments and snacks will be provided by the alumni relations office. This event is open for faculty as well as our current students and it will provide some good career development and networking opportunities for students.
This year’s event speaker is Mr. David Upshaw ’08. Mr. Upshaw received his BS in Physics from McMurry University in 2008. He earned his MS in Mechanical Engineering from Texas Tech University in 2011. From 2011 to 2015 he held several engineering positions in industry. From 2015 to 2021 he worked as a Research and Development Engineer for Los Alamos National Laboratory, Los Alamos, NM. His efforts in Los Alamos were recognized with several U.S. Defense Department awards for significant contributions to U.S. nuclear deterrent modernization programs. Starting this fall, Mr. Upshaw serves as Assistant Professor of Engineering and the newest member of McMurry Physics Department. We are glad to welcome David back home to McMurry. His talk is entitled “Oh, the Places You’ll Go!” He will reflect on his academic/career/life experience as a McMurry Physics alumnus. He will review the last 15 years of his academic and professional path, the McMurry University experience, transitioning into the engineering field, and career opportunities and decisions.
Mr. Upshaw is the Title V Engineering Physics Specialist, and is spearheading the development and launch of the Engineering Physics program next fall.
