STEM Student Success Center staff members Dr. Rachel Montesdeoca and Erica Medina joined Admission Counselor Jaanai Garcia-Rodriguez at the 2022 Abilene Business Mercado on Saturday, October 8. The event was held from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday at the Abilene Convention Center.

The Business Mercado is hosted by the Abilene Chamber Hispanic Business Council, Business Mercado (Market) is an annual showcase of business products and services with the intent of building the bridge with the Hispanic consumer. Open to all businesses and educational institutions interested in connecting with the Hispanic market, this family friendly event spotlights the Hispanic culture in Abilene. McMurry joined over 80 exhibitors to promote the STEM Student Success Center, our Handshake partnership for student career preparation and employment, and educational opportunities for our Hispanic community. Mariachis, the ballet folklorico and other family friendly activities provided fun throughout the day.

The theme for this year’s mercado was Mercado Gigante, a play on the popular TV show “Sábado Gigante,” which dominated Hispanic airwaves for more than 30 years.  Exhibitors decorated their booths to evoke the fun of the show, which was the longest-running TV variety series in the world. The three-hour program each Saturday ended its streak in September 2015.
