Many among us will recall Charlie’s Angels – an all-female cast of crime fighting heroes. Ah, the good old days when young women exhibited incredible skills and dedication to defeating crime around every corner. In a real show of “girl power”, they often ran circles around, out-punched, and out-thought the male-dominated bad guys wreaking havoc on peace-loving citizens.
There are real “bad guys” wreaking havoc on peace-loving citizens, causing devastating diseases that upend families and destroy dreams. One of these is breast cancer, and a group of McMurry students has stepped up to challenge its impact on women. Team O’Connell’s Oncogeniuses is working to discover the role of collagen X in metastasis.
Today they were presented their monogrammed labcoats for working on the research during the meeting of McMurry’s Biology Club. Suffice it to say they were not expecting hot pink to be the color, yet the significance of such a statement was not lost on them. And to say they rocked it in their hot pink labcoats in honor of breast cancer survivors would be an understatement.
The Research Team has flipped the Charlie’s Angels script by taking an all-male approach to the fight.
They are Hot Pink Superheroes on a mission to make a difference.
