The 2021 Research Summit was held on December 3. It was attended by
over 50 people, with 24 posters presented as well as two oral presentations. Faculty and students from Cisco College joined us for the event.
The Summit started out with a luncheon provided by Intuitive Systems and Chick-fil-A. At 1:00, the poster session began followed by presentations at 2:30. All presentations were reviewed by faculty from McMurry and Cisco to provide feedback on the projects. As many of the presentations represented “status reports” for ongoing projects, this formative assessment will contribute to ongoing improvement in the work done by our students.
Posters were authored by individual students working on research teams with a faculty member as well as teams from 4 biology courses with embedded research projects (course-based undergraduate research experiences – CURES):
- Environmental Geology (GEOS 1405) with Dr. Brad Blackwell,
- Molecular Biology Laboratory (BIMS 4150) with Dr. Malaney O’Connell,
- Microbiology (BIMS 3410) with Dr. Gary Wilson, and
- two classes with Ms. Brooke Wright—Introduction to Nutrition (HHSC 1310) and Introduction to Public Health (HHSC 3310).
Badges will be awarded to students who presented at the summit—Oral
Research Presentation, Research Poster, and Team Research Poster.
