Today marked the beginning of a week of research celebration with the Fall Research Summit at McMurry University. A similar event will occur at Cisco College–Abilene Education Center next week.
In this morning’s Research Summit, students from Research Teams and other experiential activities provided an update on their work. There were two oral presentations, one by Brant Scout student Rebecca Harris over a survey of bats detected using ultrasonic monitors in and around wind farms in our area. The second presentation was by Adam Liuzza who described his internship with the Louisiana Department of Fish and Wildlife.
Fourteen posters were presented by Research Team members, capstone students, and teams from a regular campus course. Poster presentations included overviews of their proposed work for the year or an overview of their progress on existing projects. The Brant Scouts, Crab Boyle, and O’Connell’s Oncogeniuses teams were all represented. Next Tuesday, the show will move to Cisco-AEC where Brandi’s AI Experts and Chandra Sustainability students will strut their stuff for our faculty. In the future it is hoped both schools can hold joint meetings together, but this fall that proved impossible.
Additionally, Dr. Wilson’s BIMS 3410 Microbiology students presented posters on research conducted during the course this fall. The image above is of one of these posters and its three presenters. This team chose to use the “better poster” format for their work, something new and experimental at McMurry. For a closer work at their work, take a photo with your phone of the QR code below!
