Find A Way: The 2023 War Hawk Football Season
The 2023 McMurry Football season was one to remember. The Warhawks brought home the first winning record for the program since 2012, marking a major step forward for the young football team. The 6-4 record for the season can be quite deceiving as three of the Warhawks’ losses came from a combined 5 points, giving the Warhawks a positive point differential for the season, outscoring their opponents 364 to 209.
Two of the losses came to ranked Mary Hardin Baylor and an overtime loss to eventual ASC champions Hardin Simmons. Eighteen Warhawk football players earned all-conference awards led by Chris Baker who earned first-team all-conference at his defensive back position. Underclassmen Jess Hoel, Kobe Moore, Herman Lee, and senior Krisotpher Martin earned second-team awards from the conference. Martin notably accomplished a rare feat of a 1,000-yard receiving season putting him in elite company in Division 3 football. The close matchups and success of underclassmen marks a positive note heading into the 2024 season, where Coach Neal and the Warhawks will look to build on their rapid success.
