War Hawk Track and Field Soar to Record Highs
Following McMurry Track and Field’s performance at the Wichita State Wilson Invitational Meet, USTFCCCA.org named McMurry as the number one team in the West Region on the men’s side and number 2 in the Region on the women’s side. Additionally, McMurry is currently ranked as the 22nd-best track and field team in all of Division 3 on the men’s side. At the Wilson Invitational, McMurry saw major top placements at a meet filled with top-level Division 2 and Division 1 programs.
On the men’s side, McMurry had 3 individuals place in the top 12 of the men’s 200-meter sprint event, with Dazhaun Walton leading the charge at a 2nd place finish. Walton currently sits at 17th in Division 3 rankings in the 200. Abraham Maldonado led the men in the distance events, finishing 3rd in the Mile race. Dontre Sinegal continues his historic McMurry career with a 6th-place finish in the 60-meter hurdles. Sinegal currently sits tied at 6th place nationally in the 60-meter hurdle event and is ranked 3rd nationally in the long jump. McMurry’s always excellent pole vault group also saw high placing results with Rylan Rodgers placing 7th and Leroy Burke placing 9th. McMurry’s throwing program also saw results in shotput as freshman Jackson Harris placed 6th and Vern Angton placed 9th. The biggest mark of the day was Shepard Miller placing 2nd in the Heptathlon and setting the McMurry school record with 4,563 points in the event. Miller is currently ranked 23rd nationally in the event.
The War Hawk women also had a big day on the track with Madelyn Gollihar placing 3rd in the 200-meter sprint. On the distance side, Chloe Mclellan placed 2nd in the mile, while Savanna Dancer (2nd), Ashley Shea (3rd), Jasmine Hunter (7th), and Jocelyn Moreno (8th) all finished in the top 8 of the Women’s 5,000-meter event. Naj Campbell capped off the trackside with a 5th-place finish in the 60-meter hurdles. On the Field side, Breanna Stell picked up a huge performance winning the Women’s pole vault event. Stell currently is ranked 14th nationally in Pole Vault. McMurry throwers Kendra Humphries (Shotput) and Ellie Ryan (Weight Throw) also put up solid performances in their events, placing in the top 12.
