Voting for Mr. & Ms. McMurry

One of the most exciting times during the Fall semester is McMurry Homecoming! There are so many special and memorable events during the weekend celebration, but one of the most anticipated traditions for many seniors is the nominations and voting for Mr. and Ms. McMurry. These high honor awards will be presented at the Homecoming Coronation on the evening of November 6th; you don’t want to miss it!

Along with Mr. & Ms. McMurry, Class Favorite awards are also presented that evening. Freshman, Sophomore, and Junior students vote for their Class favorite male and female student, and the entire student body votes for Mr & Ms McMurry. These weeks leading up to homecoming bring War Hawks together by creating a supportive community when it comes to campaigning and voting!

Last year’s Mr. & Ms. McMurry awards went to Leroy Burke and Tana Thomas, two students who met at McMurry, and won the awards as an engaged couple. I asked Tana what winning meant to both of them, and she stated, “Honestly, it means so much to me! Leroy and I have been together since freshman year, so getting to win Mr. and Ms. McMurry with my best friend meant the world to me. I’m so thankful we had the opportunity to be part of McMurry history and such a special tradition together.”

Many students will be feeling nervous, scared, and excited for the next couple of weeks, especially as the voting narrows down to the final top two. Tana’s advice for any students running for class favorite or Mr. and Ms. McMurry is to be yourself! She says, “Don’t be afraid to put yourself out there and enjoy the experience. It’s such a fun opportunity to make memories and be part of something so meaningful”.

Next week, the top two candidates in each category will advance to the finalists’ runoff election. This section of voting will begin on Monday, October 19, and close on Thursday, October 22, at 5 p.m. The winners will be announced at the Homecoming festival on November 6th. Good luck to all students running!
