Greek Life’s Rush Season Is in Full Swing!

Issue 54: October 30, 2026

Rush season for Greek Life at McMurry is one of the most highly anticipated times of the year! This is when students have the opportunity to find their sisterhood or brotherhood for life. They go through a specific process of Rush Tea, Coke/Smoker Parties, invite-only Rush Parties, and it all leads up to the big day…Bid Day! Girls are in the process of rushing sororities such as Alpha Psi Alpha, Delta Beta Epsilon, Gamma Sigma, Theta Chi Lambda, and T.I.P. As for the men, they are in the process of rushing fraternities such as Chi Omicron, KIVA, Ko Sari, and Makona. After busy weeks of all things rush-related, everyone has Thanksgiving break! Jumping right back into it, Bid Day is the evening of November 29th, the Sunday after break.

Reaghan Staehley, President of the sorority Alpha Psi Alpha and top two contender for Ms. McMurry, says that this rush season allows for her club to not only learn about new people, but also learn more about each other and grow in their sisterhood. Her advice to anyone rushing is, “Truly go with what your heart says. You don’t have to fit the status quo or go somewhere that everyone else is going. If you find joy in a specific place, go explore it. Don’t limit yourself or take options out because of things that other people are saying. This is your rush process; make the most of it and go where you truly find yourself at home.” When asked how Greek life has positively impacted her, she stated, “There are so many different routes in Greek Life that lead to learning new skills, meeting new people, and gaining new opportunities. I found in my experience that I have gained so many new friends for life, along with skills of teamwork, communication, and leadership. Greek Life is an opportunity to spread your wings and grow as a friend, an individual, and a leader.”

Jackson Preng, President of the fraternity Ko Sari, is excited for this rush season because of the good group of people going through the process, and because it is his fraternity’s 90th anniversary. His advice to anyone rushing is to “Keep an open mind, have fun, and make memories. The people you pledge with are going to be your closest friends, and they will make college a more fun experience overall.” I asked Preng how Greek life has impacted him in a positive way, and he stated, “Greek Life has given me closer friends and ‘brothers.’ I know those guys will have my back through anything, and those will be lifelong friendships that I will always keep.”

As someone who has gone through the rush process myself, I understand that it can be a stressful time. Meeting so many people can be overwhelming, but I can wholeheartedly say that it was one of the best decisions I’ve made. As a Senior, I have given a lot of rush advice throughout my time here. My biggest piece of advice is to not follow your friend that is rushing, or your friend that is already in a Sorority or Fraternity. From experience, you can be friends with people that are not in your club. My best friend is in a different sorority than I am! The goal of rushing is to find your family and your home away from home, so do what feels right! Also, it is important to keep your options open and not get set on a certain group early on. As Greek Life’s motto says, keep an open heart and open mind. Happy rushing!
