Homecoming 2021 – October 14-16

After a virtual Homecoming in 2020, McMurry University is thrilled to welcome alumni and friends back to campus October 14 – 16 for Homecoming 2021. Festivities begin on Thursday and continue through Saturday with activities for the whole family. 

Homecoming 2021 kicks off at 5 p.m. on Thursday with a ceremony honoring McMurry’s rich history and celebrating the excitement of new beginnings. At 6 p.m., Dr. Robert Wallace, McMurry sociology professor will present “My Life in Crime: The State of Serendipity” in the Jay-Rollins Library—this year’s installment of the annual Homecoming Friends of the Library Lecture Series. 

The McMurry Theatre Department will thrill audiences with “The Addams Family,” a spookily spectacular musical, in Radford Auditorium. Performance times include 7:30 p.m. on Thursday and Saturday, 6 p.m. on Friday and 2 p.m. on Sunday. Tickets are $12. 

On Friday at 3 p.m., McMurry will host the Celebrating Together Festival—the first of several additions to Homecoming weekend. A community-wide celebration for all ages, the street festival will be in the McMurry Main Quad and will feature music, games, demonstrations, hands-on learning, and arts and crafts. Special guests include Abilene favorites the APD K9 Unit, the Falconer and the Pumpkin Man. Festivalgoers can enjoy treats from popular local vendors, including Espressoak, Hearts BBQ, Life of Pie and Tacolote. 

The Celebrating Together Festival will wrap up in time for the traditional bonfire and pep rally at 9 p.m. in Wah Wahtaysee Park. Then, the enjoyment continues with live music from local artists in another new addition—the Lawn Jam Concert—from 9:30 p.m. to midnight on the north of Radford lawn. Performers will include Della Rose, Krystofer Campos, Weston and the Evergreen, and DJ Mike Limones. 

Saturday’s athletic contests kick off at 9 a.m. with the Bill Libby Cross Country Invitation at the ACU cross country course. At 10 a.m. War Hawk pride will be on full display as students and alumni strut their spirit during a mile-long walking parade around campus. Tailgating behind Jay Rollins will begin at 11:30 a.m. bringing alumni, faculty and staff together. Saturday excitement will keep rolling with volleyball at noon in Kimbrell Arena, the Homecoming football game against Austin College at 1 p.m. in Wilford Moore Stadium, and men’s and women’s soccer from 5 p.m. – 9:30 p.m. in Wilford Moore Stadium.
