McMurry’s Science and Math Advisory Board (SMAB) is composed of alumni from the STEM disciplines who meet twice a year to get an update on the status of science on campus and discuss ways they can help STEM programs better equip students for productive lives in STEM careers.  SMAB is composed of engineers, computer scientists, research scientists, and medical professionals whose experiences at McMurry, and experience in their professions, gives them unique insight to help guide and support our programs.

On April 13, SMAB met and during their meeting Title 5 leadership provided an overview of the grant with particular emphasis given to the ways Title 5 will help transform us to remain competitive and relevant in our preparation of future scientists.  Central to that was our discussion of Research Teams from Cisco College and McMurry providing students with deep experiences and a collection of highly-sought skills through their involvement in research.  Each team from this past year was highlighted, along with new teams coming online in Year 2 of the grant.  SMAB also heard research presentations from students involved in research at McMurry, and got a glimpse of the depth of knowledge and impressive array of skills mastered along the way.  One more opportunity for our students to practice their presentation skills before an audience of STEM professionals!
