McMurry Track continues Indoor Success into Outdoor Season

Issue 26: March 20, 2024

The McMurry track program has a massive amount of momentum heading into the 2024 outdoor season. Junior Hurdler/Jumper Dontre Sinegal enters the outdoor season as a standout in all of Division 3 track and field. Sinegal earned All-American honors in the indoor 60-meter hurdle race, Long Jump, and Triple Jump events. Sinegal’s 15 points were good enough to place McMurry at 9th at Division 3 Indoor Nationals, and impressive feet for a singular athlete. The men were not the only squad seeing national results. Freshman Pole Vaulter Breanna Stell earned Second Team All-American honors, finishing 14th in her first indoor nationals in her first indoor season as a War Hawk. McMurry opened their outdoor season at the 2024 Trinity Invitational followed by the ACU West Kittley Invitational over spring break.

McMurry’s high placing at these meets has put the men and women in firm control of the ASC in several events. Of the 110 total Top 5 spots in the ASC on the men’s side, McMurry occupies 28 of these spots. Including 3 spots in the Top 5 of the 400-meter dash, 3 in the 400-meter hurdle event, 4 in the discus throw, and 3 in the hammer throw. The women have been even more dominant with 39 women ranking in the Top 5 spots of the ASC conference. McMurry has also dominated the national level, with 5 male athletes ranking Top 10 in the nation in their events. Reagan Owens, a junior thrower, leads these rankings, being ranked 6th in the nation in Discus Throw and 3rd in the Hammer Throw. Following Owens are Dazhaun Walton (6th in the 200), Kade Kimmel (3rd in the 110-Hurdles), Justin Deleon (5th in the 400-meter hurdles), and Dontre Sinegal (1st in the Triple Jump).

The women again slightly outdo the men, with 6 female athletes ranked in the Top 10 of all of Division 3. These women consist of Brynn Yannez (5th in the 100), Madelyn Gollihar (6th in the 200), Jada Morris (7th in the Long Jump), Kendra Humphries (9th in Shotput), Tori Coleman (7th in Discus), and Ellie Ryan (9th in the Hammer Throw). The War Hawks will carry their success to the TLU D3 Challenge Meet on March 23.
