DBE Upholds Campus’ Core Values at the 3rd Annual Delta Olympics!

Issue 51: April 23, 2026

This weekend Greek Life participated in the much-anticipated Delta Olympics! Many hands were working to make sure that the games ran smoothly, but Abcde Vasquez, the Delta Olympics chair for Delta Beta Epsilon (DBE), oversaw the planning and structure of the event. Vaquez is a sophomore majoring in Criminology and minoring in Sociology. This was her first year running the games, a responsibility that was, according to Vasquez, challenging but ultimately gratifying.

The Delta Olympics were established three years ago, when alumni Ashlynn Quillan presented her club with an idea to foster connections between the fraternities and sororities on campus. A goal that has remained present in the years following. Vasquez shares that, “the primary purpose of the event is to bring together diverse organizations in an environment centered on unity, collaboration, and enjoyment.” Because of this motivation, the Delta Olympics have grown to create opportunities for various groups to interact, support one another, and strengthen relationships both within and across organizations.

Teamwork, leadership, and collaboration are all traits valued by DBE and promoted by the event itself. Vasquez has witnessed these traits bloom in real time, stating, “I’ve seen organizations step outside of their comfort zones, achieve success in new challenges, and grow stronger as cohesive teams.” She shares that seeing the continued development of these groups and the evolution of a more unified Greek Life community because of the Delta Olympics has been very rewarding.

Vasquez believes the event is invaluable to McMurry’s campus. It is not only a way for fraternities and sororities to connect, but for the entire student body to celebrate and have fun together. The games are open to all students to watch and cheer on their favorite clubs, hopefully inspiring them to get involved in Greek Life. “I hope it shows we all can come together as a community, and that even through our differences, we can still support each other and show that we are one big family,” shares Vasquez.

DBE did a wonderful job engaging Greek Life in these games. Members from every fraternity and sorority on campus made an appearance at the activities yesterday, fully committing to their assignments and showing up decked out in their respective club attire. Vasquez expressed her satisfaction with the event saying it was fun to “see everyone get messy during the watermelon eating contest… and cheer each other on,” during the tug-of-war competition. She is very pleased with the reception of this year’s games and looks forward to next year!

Vasquez’s passion, alongside her sorority sisters, reflects McMurry’s core value of personal relationships as the catalyst of life, excellence as the goal of life, and service as the measure of life. They are an excellent example of what school spirit and unwavering devotion look like. Congratulations DBE on another successful Delta Olympics, McMurry can’t wait to see all that you will accomplish!
