Fall 2025 McMurry Student Government Recap

Issue 46: December 3, 2025

As the last two McMurry Student Government meetings of the year approach, it’s a good time to look back and see what they have accomplished for the student body!

So far this year, MSG has recognized 6 new clubs on campus and one returning club from McMurry’s history. Specifically the return of the Gun Club, with the new Veterans, Powerlifting, J.D. Law School Interest, Commuter Connection, Sports Fantasy, Entrepreneurship, and Rugby Clubs. MSG has also approved and distributed funding across seven organizations on campus for their events and needs.

MSG funded half of the International Student’s Association’s debut SALO event, which featured emcees, dancing, games, foods from across the world, as well as guests from international organizations at Hardin Simmons and Abilene Christian Universities. MSG helped cover the cost of the English Club’s Gothicon event, which featured short story readings and a spooky atmosphere around midterms. Additionally, MSG helped cover the cost of conference registration fees for McMurry’s Model UN team and covered half the cost of the newly founded Veterans Club’s 501(c) (3) application. MSG supported Makona’s Flamingo 5K Breast Cancer fundraising effort benefiting the Cancer Services Network. MSG approved the food and supply costs of the Latin American-Hispanic Club’s cookout event to be held next semester. Lastly, MSG approved funds for Psi Chi’s destress event, held in partnership with SAGA and the Counseling Center here on campus, prior to finals week this Friday, December 5th, from 12-3, with Arts and Crafts in the campus center and dogs in the quad to help make finals just a bit less stressful.

MSG also voted to cover a large portion of the cost of the Deck the Quad Lights this semester, held a breakfast, volunteer campus cleanup, and Friendsgiving for students. Worked with McMurry Marketing (Stratcom) to revise the funding request process and MSG website to help students better prepare their events and worked with Residence Life Director Jordan Gregory to elect the homecoming court, with around a quarter of enrolled students participating in the election. MSG has voted in two new staff sponsors, Chaplain Rev. Ricky Harrison and Assistant Dean Mariah Fusco. Both of them returning McMurry Alumni, and both of them have shared their thoughts on becoming sponsors of MSG.

“I am a 2019 graduate of McMurry, and it has been a privilege and honor to see McMurry over the years as a student, alumna, and staff member. Having the opportunity now to step into a sponsor role for MSG is another great honor. I believe wholeheartedly in the profound influence of extracurricular involvement on leadership development. MSG is a shining example of this into return and I look forward to encouraging War Hawks to share their ideas for the benefit of the student body.” Stated Fusco.

“As a 2014 alumni, it has been an incredible privilege returning to serve an institution that was so formative in my own development. When I was a student at McMurry, it was the faculty & staff who supported me, encouraged me, and helped me discern my gifts for life and ministry. In this new role, I’m really looking forward to working alongside McMurry Student Government to enhance their vital leadership across campus. MSG serves so many ways, both publicly and behind the scenes all across campus. McMurry University exists to serve the students and it is a privilege to support our leaders in MSG who work so tirelessly to continue improving our campus community every single day.” Remarked Harrison.

MSG worked with the new sponsors as well as long time sponsor Dr. Fabrizio and McMurry administration to redesignate a student study space near the chapel for next semester, check the Ryan Fine Arts Building vending machine was restocked, and introduce a printer to the first floor of the campus center for late-night printing needs.

MSG looks forward to having our new sponsors and meeting you at 6:30 on Mondays next semester in the President’s Board Room upstairs in the Campus Center, MSG’s new regular meeting location! Follow McMurry Student Government at @mcmurrysg on Instagram for more updates.
